ITC letter to World Health Organization on Corona virus crisis in Iran

WHO Headquarters

Director General

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

Ask for help from the World Health Organization for the Corona virus crisis in Iran

Iran Transition Council (iran-tc.com), on behalf of the Iranian people everywhere, respectfully requests that the World Health Organization takes all the necessary measures to help the people of Iran in preventing the further spread of Covid-19 in the Islamic Republic of Iran as soon as possible. Of all the countries most seriously affected by 2019 Novel Coronavirus, namely, China, the Philippines, Iran, Korea, Japan, France, Italy and Taiwan, the Islamic Republic of Iran is less prepared to deal with the “community spread” of this potential pandemic. Iran’s economic meltdown, systemic corruption, unpreparedness of the medical community, inadequate medical supplies and facilities, lack of transparency, the dissemination of mis-information, the incompetency of the policy makers and the insistence of the Regime’s officials, at the highest level, on conspiracy theories, even as it relates to the spread of Covid-19 outbreak, make it highly improbable for the Islamic Republic to effectively prevent the further “community spread” of this infectious disease. All the evidence so far clearly demonstrates the inability of the Government in Iran to effectively address this humanitarian health crisis there. Unofficial reports speak to February 28 of 192 dead. The number of infected people was estimated at 750 at this time, this number is probably several times higher. The rate of mortality in Iran is more than 11%, more than 3 times the rate in China. The infection has spread in 23 of 31 States in Iran. The government has refused to close down the mosques and holy places, which are the most visited sites by both Iranian citizens and tourist alike. The first cases of infection reported by Iraq, Kuwait, Oman and Afghanistan, had one thing in common: All the patients had recently visited Iran. Thus, we, at Iran Transition Council, request that the World Health Organization in accordance with her noble mission of helping people to “attain the highest possible level of health,” “to keep the world safe’” and “to serve the vulnerable”. Please assist the people of Iran at these early stages of this potential worldwide pandemic.

We, at Iran Transition Council, applaud your efforts at WHO and we have no doubt that the people of Iran will be eternally grateful to you. Indeed, this is a humanitarian crisis and it takes the most noble and the most capable of organizations to address it.

Respectfully

On behalf of ITC’s Executive Board

Dr. N. Barati-Novbari (Alias Mehran Barati)
