Protesting Ibrahim Raisi’s memorial service at the United Nations

Your Excellencies,

The United Nations (UN) was established after World War II in an attempt to maintain international peace and security and to achieve cooperation among nations on economic, social, and human rights, including defence of citizens against dictators.

Unfortunately, your recent action, holding memorial service for Ibrahim Raisi’s death, at the UN is against the initial goals of the UN and have caused much concern for activist defending human rights across the world.

Since Iran revolution in 1979, Raisi has been directly involved in people disappearance, extrajudicial executions of thousands of political prisoners, and in the arrest, torture and killing of the protestors of the “Women-Life-Freedom” movement, and further the protestors for not wearing the mandatory hijab.

The Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) by establishing and supporting fundamentalist groups, has tarnished peace, security, and stability of the Middle East region; It has set the region ablaze, unstable, insecure, and volatile. Destabilizing operations of the regime, in the last 45 years, has been continuously monitored and reported by the international media.

The UNHR Council has repeatedly recognized and condemned the IRI as a human rights violator in its annual reports. According to the Amnesty International, 75% of the world’s executions in 2023 is attributed to the Islamic regime in Iran.

The UNHR “Fact-Finding Committee” set up by your office, in its published report, listed numerous acts of repression against the citizens of Iran during the 1401 protests, the “Jinnah movement”, quoted a “crimes against humanity”. Further, you are aware of the reports produced by Javed Rahman, the special rapporteur of the UN, on “massive violations of human rights” in Iran.

Excellencies,

The UN half-raised flag due to death of Ibrahim Raisi, whom the people of Iran have nicknamed “Butcher of Tehran”, and holding a memorial service on Thursday 29 May 2024, under your initiative, caused an unprecedented heartbrokenness for the freedom and peace-loving people in the world, especially the people of Iran.

Excellencies,

The organization of the Iran Cooperation Pact (ICP) expresses its emphatic disgust with this aberrative action which is the untrammelled violation against the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We do hope you would act, immediately and unreservedly, apologizing to the people of Iran and all

HR activists in the world. By doing so, you may be able to remove this disgrace mark from your lap and to restore the tarnished dignity of the United Nations.
