“Aftermath of Ismael Haniyeh Assassination in Tehran”

  1. The Basiji Organization has submitted a report informing authorities that, street security provision by volunteering Basiji will suffer greatly if the country engages war with Israel. The report also informs, in the second half of 2022, the volunteers including the Ashura and Alzahra brigades have shown little interest in participating to provide cover; some of them have even failed to renew their membership. These volunteers have gone through two years of special training before being deployed. Therefore, in an event of war, the organisation needs to employ and train the new volunteers in an expedited training programme before they could replace the existing cohort.
  2. After Haniyah assassination, many security personnels were detained, however the leadership issued an amnesty. The Armed Forces Judicial Organization in response to the leadership’s amnesty has taken appropriate initiative to release the detainees; many who did not pose security risks have returned to their units, without being implicated.
  3. The Ministry of Défense and Support has reported sabotage has occurred within their constituent organisations, causing production disruptions in three sites, manufacturing attack and surveillance drones. The main areas of sabotage have been in the auxiliary parts of the structure by introducing wrong signals in the drone’s tracking systems causing malfunction; mostly in the camera control systems.
  4. The Ministry of Intelligence’s survey shows people willingness to support war with Israel is diminishing on daily basis; majority are experiencing fear and anxiety for an uncertain future. Consequently, there has been an increase in withdrawal of money from banks and private financial institutions to purchase foreign currencies. Last week, buying gold market has shown an increase by 34% in Tehran.
  5. Further, the Ministry has reported, students in several universities have shown nervousness and are critical of war with Israel. Propensity against war is very high among students; numerous critical speeches have been organised directing their dissatisfaction towards visiting authorities.
  6. The IRGC Intelligence Organization has also reported, due to Ismael Haniyeh assassination in Tehran, in 8 provinces’ grain-rice warehouses hoarding has taken place by holding back a significant portion of their import. The hoarding had pushed the market-price for these commodities extremely high. However, it is stated that, by timely IRGC intervention, the hoarding has been stopped, and the grains are being distributed, normally.
