Hamas outraged over Iranian spying on his senior official

An espionage scandal between Iran and Hamas was recently exposed after the Gaza-based group discovered that Tehran activated agents who followed every movement and recorded phone calls made by senior Hamas member Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook, N12 reported. One of Marzook’s staff members was recently exposed as an Iranian intelligence officer who was recruited by Tehran with Hezbollah mediation. The agent reported every movement made by Marzook during his official trips.

Marzook is a central figure regarding Hamas’s foreign affairs array, and previously served as the head of its political branch.Following the discovery, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh talked to Hezbollah secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah about the subject.   The crisis between Hamas and the Iranian leadership comes after numerous cyberattacks were exchanged between Israel and Iran in the past couple of months, most notably the attacks on Israeli water facilities – all of which have been thwarted – that took place at the end of April. The spy, who has since fled to Sudan, kept close tabs on his boss and reported on his every move
A three-pronged crisis between Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran has erupted in recent days after a staffer working for a senior Hamas official was identified as an Iranian spy.
First reported by Israeli broadcaster Channel 12, Hamas discovered that at least one person working alongside Musa Abu Marzouk – in charge of the organization’s foreign relations – was, in fact, an Iranian agent, most likely recruited through Hezbollah, the Lebanese terrorist organization.
The Hebrew-language outlet said the spy kept close tabs on his boss, reporting on his every move and conversations to an Iranian handler.
Marzouk was reportedly outraged over the espionage scheme and complained directly to Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who in turn personally raised the issue Hassan Nasrallah, his Hezbollah counterpart.
Marzouk, who has been a vocal opponent of Hamas straightening ties with the Islamic Republic, currently resides in Qatar.
Although Iran has financially supported Hamas and its terrorist activities for years, the Gaza-based organization is hesitant to fully embrace Tehran as a benefactor, aware that its Arab allies like Egypt see Iran as a regional threat.
The spy reportedly was forced to resign from Marzouk’s office and fled to Sudan after the scheme was discovered.
