To the 46th President of the United States, Mr. Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
The Iran Transition Council (ITC) congratulates you on your historic election. Your energetic, honest and enthralling inaugural speech yesterday offered a ray of hope for democracy, constitutional government, and free and fair elections everywhere. Your speech was especially poignant for us Iranians who are counting on you and the American people to support us in establishing democracy and upholding human rights, an aspiration which, as you well know, has been brutally suppressed for the past 42 years by the theocratic regime in power in Iran. We believe that the United States’ long-term national interest is entirely in line with the Iranian people’s desire for democracy and the protection of the inalienable rights of human beings. Therefore, we humbly request that your policies reflect this shared long-term common interest of our two countries. We, the freedom-loving people of Iran as the diaspora (as well as millions inside Iran who risk their lives if they make their wish for democratic government known), will strive to make the United States, once again, Iran’s strategic partner.
Please know that our best wishes will remain with you for success and good fortune as the 46th President of the United States of America, sir.
