Corona virus (COVID19) in Iran: A devastating situation
Dear Dr. Tedros, Adhanom Ghebreyesus,
At present, Iran is one of the countries of the world most infected with Coronavirus, particularly the spread has taken its tool with the arrival the Delta version from the east. Iran Health Authority on 9 August 2021, has announced if immediate measure is not taken, the rate of loss of life will soon reach at least 800 person per day. This figure of 800 is official, the unofficial report inform that the statistics are much higher.
The real issue started from the time when the epidemic arrived in Iran in 2019 and due to ineffective measures to combat the spread, the virus quickly spread to many provinces in Iran. The existence of the epidemic was denied people of Iran due to mismanagement and corruption at many levels of governance. The supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, prevented the import of vaccines from the west with devastated effects of the spread, further. The report from inside informs that a limited number of doses of vaccine is now being imported from China and Russia which it is although welcome, but it is not sufficient. At present most provinces of Iran are declared Red-area. The Health Authority in Iran is not able to cope with the desperate situation, hospitals are overwhelmed and not able to attend the infected people.
People of Iran need urgent attention from the WHO by providing them support by Covid-19 vaccines and the attached list of basic equipment and facilities.
On behalf of the Iranian people requests that the World Health Organization acts urgently and help people of Iran in this desperate time to prevent further fatality.
Respectfully yours,
Hassan Shariatmadari
